Ever wonder how many trees are sacrificed during this time of year? No, I'm not even referring to those used in our homes to hold our lights and ornaments. I'm referring to the trees used to manufacture paper and ultimately the hoards of catalogs that appear in our mailboxes during this season.
Within the past two days I have received TWENTY-THREE catalogs from various vendors, some from whom I have purchased things in the past, but many from business that are completely foreign to me.
What in the world is Wolferman's, for example? I thought for a minute it might be something for the outdoorsman. No, it's sweetbreads, muffins, and other baked goods for breakfast! Who knew?!
And then there's one for REI. Seriously, do I look like I hike, bike or spend much time mountain climbing?
Still another is from the Discovery Store which features things from the Discovery Channel. How in the world do they know what I watch?!
Anyway, I just shudder to think how many trees gave their lives for this plethora of unsolicited (and wholly off-target) catalogs that were crammed in my mailbox! What happened to going green? I guess that goes by the wayside when stores are focused on making green!
